In a significant crackdown, a trans-border illegal arms and narco-terrorism hawala racket has been dismantled by the police, leading to the arrest of eight individuals, officials confirmed on Thursday.

During the operation, law enforcement authorities seized 4.10 kg of heroin, two pistols (one manufactured in Pakistan), 45 live cartridges, and Rs 2.07 lakh in cash. Efforts to apprehend other groups with similar cross-border linkages and hawala connections are still underway, according to Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav.

The kingpin, Ranjit Singh alias 'Kaka', along with his associates including Rajinder alias Raja, Abhishek alias Abhi, Vishal alias Shalu, Lovepreet alias Kalu, Gurbhej alias Bheja, Gurjant, and Jaspal, have been arrested. These individuals are residents of Gharinda, Amritsar. Investigations revealed 'Kaka' had direct connections with Pakistan-based entities, orchestrating the heroin and illegal arms racket in Punjab as part of a hawala network.
