A 34-year-old BTech dropout named Ankit Gupta was apprehended by police for allegedly swindling a man out of Rs 7.48 lakh in an online investment scam, authorities revealed on Thursday.

According to an investigation, Gupta's bank account showed transactions amounting to Rs 7.35 crore, and he had 12 complaints registered against him on the Ministry of Home Affairs portal.

Police said the complainant, Dhan Singh Negi, filed an NCRP complaint on April 26, stating he had been lured by a woman promising extra income. Gupta was arrested in Kanpur on June 13. Further investigations uncovered that Gupta, along with an accomplice, had created four fake firms to facilitate their fraudulent activities.
