A special MP-MLA court on Thursday handed down a seven-year prison sentence to former BJP MLA Kashiram Diwakar and five others for breaking into and vandalizing a sugar mill in Shahabad 12 years ago.
On Wednesday, the court found all six accused guilty. District Government Counsel Seema Rana stated that Omveer Singh, president of Shahabad-based Rana Sugar Mill, filed a case on January 16, 2012, alleging the group, led by Diwakar, entered the mill and caused damage following a dispute on removing a tractor trolley.
The incident also resulted in injuries to some mill workers. An FIR was lodged at Shahabad police station against Diwakar and others. Additionally, the court levied a fine of Rs 1,01,000 on each convict.
After hearing both sides, MP-MLA court judge Vijay Kumar convicted former MLA Diwakar, Krishnapal, Bharat, Sanju Yadav, Meghraj, and Suresh Gupta. Meanwhile, 21 other accused were acquitted due to insufficient evidence.
