A man allegedly involved in the attack on a local MLA was shot at within the court's premises here, leading to a rushed transfer to AIIMS with critical bullet wounds, police reported on Thursday.

Two individuals on a motorbike opened fire on Saurabh Patyal, one of 13 accused in the attack on Congressman Bamber Thakur, a former Bilaspur assembly seat MLA, following a contentious argument in the office of Dilip Buildcon Limited's general manager on February 23.

Patyal was attending a court hearing when the shooting occurred. He was initially transported to a local hospital before being shifted to Bilaspur AIIMS for advanced treatment.

Bilaspur Deputy Superintendent of Police Madan Dhiman confirmed the arrest of one of the two assailants, identified as Sunny Gill, 34, from Ludhiana in Punjab, while the search for the other continues.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, Dhiman added.
