West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose on Friday wrote to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, seeking clarification on why the police barred alleged victims of post-poll violence from entering the Raj Bhavan despite obtaining necessary permission from his office.

Bose also visited Maheshwari Bhawan in Burrabazar to meet those affected by the alleged post-poll violence following the Lok Sabha elections. The BJP has accused the ruling TMC of being behind the violence, accusations that the TMC has staunchly denied.

''The governor had issued written permission allowing the delegation, which included Suvendu Adhikari and the alleged victims, to enter the Raj Bhavan and meet him. Despite this, the police did not permit them to enter. The governor has now issued constitutional directives to the CM, demanding an explanation for this action,'' an official told PTI.

During the meeting, Governor Bose interacted with around 150 individuals staying at the Maheshwari Bhawan and documented their complaints.

Police had cited Section 144 of the CrPC, in force outside the Governor House, as the reason for barring BJP member and Leader of the Opposition in the assembly Suvendu Adhikari and the alleged victims from entering the premises. In his communication to Banerjee, Governor Bose also referred to constitutional norms requiring chief ministers to keep governors informed about all decisions of the council of ministers related to state administration and legislative proposals.
