The accused, identified as Tarlochan Pal of the 3rd IRB (India Reserve Battalion) and Surinderpal from the Punjab Police Academy in Phillaur, are charged with fraud.
A complaint lodged by Surinder Singh from Nanglan village, Garhshankar, to the chief minister's anti-corruption action line portal led to the preliminary investigation, confirming the charges against the accused.
Investigations revealed that Pal and Surinderpal lured their victims with false assurances of upcoming vacancies in the Punjab Police, thereby amassing a large sum of money, Rs 26,02,926, as bribes from about 102 individuals.
The duo faces charges under Sections 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code, along with Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
