A court in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district has handed down a death sentence to 24-year-old Kanchan Kol for the brutal murder of her mother-in-law.
During the trial, the fourth additional sessions judge Padma Jatav found Kanchan guilty of stabbing 50-year-old Saroj Kol more than 95 times with a sickle following a domestic dispute in July 2022, according to additional public prosecutor Vikas Dwivedi.
The incident occurred in their Atraila village home under Mangawa police station limits. Saroj was alone when the attack happened, and her son later found her and reported the incident to police. Saroj's husband was also named a co-accused but was acquitted due to lack of evidence.
