Comprehensive Partnership:

In April 2024, the leaders of New Zealand and the Philippines committed to elevating their relationship to a Comprehensive Partnership by 2026. The recent visit to Manila marks a positive step towards achieving this goal.

High-Level Meetings:

Mr. Peters met with Philippines’ President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, Foreign Secretary Enrique Manalo, Defence Secretary Gilberto Teodoro, and Senate President Francis Escudero, enhancing diplomatic ties and cooperation between the two countries.

Development Initiative:

New Zealand announced the establishment of a new development initiative worth $8.6 million over five years. This initiative aims to improve the lives of indigenous women and girls in Mindanao, focusing on enhancing decision-making processes and resource management.

Defence Cooperation:

A Mutual Logistics Supporting Arrangement was signed between the New Zealand Defence Force and the Philippines Department of National Defence, strengthening defence cooperation and logistical support between the two countries.

Business Facilitation:

An arrangement was established between the Philippine Anti-Red Tape Authority and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise to enhance ease of doing business and promote more efficient government processes, facilitating trade and investment.
