A shocking incident took place near Katarnia Ghat Wildlife Sanctuary in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich district when a woman was seriously injured by a leopard attack, officials reported on Sunday. According to eyewitnesses, Madhuri, 20, a resident of Sirsianpurva village, was sleeping outdoors when the leopard attacked around 1:30 am.

The leopard grabbed Madhuri and began dragging her towards the forest. Villagers, alerted by her screams, quickly gathered and succeeded in freeing her by hitting the animal with sticks. Madhuri sustained severe injuries in the process.

Initially taken to a local primary health centre, Madhuri was later transferred to the district hospital due to a deep head injury. Divisional Forest Officer B Shiv Shankar confirmed her deteriorating condition and the subsequent transfer. Forest personnel have heightened their vigilance in the area, and an awareness campaign has been launched to advise villagers against staying outside late at night.
