President Akufo-Addo Highlights Ghana's Digital Innovation Drive for Economic Growth

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is confident that Ghana's comprehensive embrace of digital innovation within its public sector will not only generate jobs but also serve as a significant catalyst for economic growth. Speaking at the 11th Annual Conference of Chairpersons of Governing Boards/Councils, Chief Directors, and Chief Executives of the Ghana Public Services, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the transformative potential of digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, data analytics, and blockchain in streamlining bureaucratic processes and enhancing government operations.
He underscored Ghana's commitment to investing in digital infrastructure and connectivity to ensure universal access to affordable and reliable internet services. By expanding broadband coverage, promoting digital literacy programs, and fostering the development of local content and applications, Ghana aims to empower its citizens to fully participate in the digital economy and capitalize on the opportunities presented by the fourth industrial revolution.
President Akufo-Addo commended the efforts of Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia in spearheading the digitalization agenda of the public services. He also praised Senior Presidential Advisor Yaw Osafo Maafo for his role in digitalizing processes related to essential services such as passports, driving licenses, birth and death registrations, national identification cards, national health insurance cards, and tax-related documents.
Highlighting the benefits of digitalization in terms of flexibility, convenience, and cost management, President Akufo-Addo urged public service organizations to enhance their services through digital transformation to deliver unparalleled customer experiences.
He reiterated the government's vision to reposition Ghana's public sector for higher efficiency through digital transformation, emphasizing its role in strengthening the economy. President Akufo-Addo called upon all stakeholders in the public services to embrace and prioritize the mainstreaming of digitalization in business processes.
Reflecting on the economic challenges posed by external factors such as the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical tensions, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the government's commitment to maintaining macroeconomic stability and ensuring debt sustainability. He expressed confidence in Ghana's economic turnaround, citing positive remarks from the IMF mission chief for Ghana and reaffirmed the government's dedication to rebuilding domestic and international investor confidence.
