US Navy says destroyer USS Halsey transits Taiwan Strait

The guided-missile destroyer USS Halsey conducted a routine transit through the Taiwan Strait on Wednesday, the U.S. Navy said on Wednesday.
The ship transited a corridor in the Strait that is "beyond the territorial sea of any coastal state", a navy statement said.
Over the past four years, China's military has significantly ramped up its activities around the democratically-governed island of Taiwan. Beijing views Taiwan as its own territory, a position the government in Taipei strongly rejects.
