Ethiopian Airlines ink agreement with Ghanaian govt to launch local flights in Accra

Ethiopia’s capital based Ethiopian Airlines is now widening its wings after venturing into a partnership with the government of Ghana to unveil a new Accra-based airline.
The national carrier of Ethiopia, Ethiopian Airlines is firming its feet to launch local flight in Ghana after securing 49 percent share in the newly formed flight service yet to be named. Ethiopian and the government of Ghana signed a Memorandum of Understanding last December.
The proposed airline will be a home-based airline that would be established by Ethiopian Airlines in collaboration with the government of Ghana and the private sector. The government of Ghana and the private sector will have a minimum of 51 percent stake in the proposed airline while Ethiopian will hold up to 49 percent interest in the new national airline, The Reporter Ethiopia noted.
Ghana’s capital, Accra-based new company will enable Ethiopian Airlines to provide local flights within Ghana using Dash 8-400 planes. Meanwhile, it is not indicated when exactly the service will start. Over the past years, Ethiopian Airlines has been opening multiple hubs in different corners of Africa using similar partnership models, New Business Ethiopia noted.
New infrastructure is under processing at Ghana’s airport recently. This includes a new terminal at Accra’s Kotoka International Airport, a new terminal at Kumasi, and expansion and reconstruction at Tamale, Wa and Ho airport’s.
