Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been bestowed with the Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit, an honor bestowed by King Harald V of Norway on Monday. This prestigious award acknowledges Modi's significant contribution to fortifying relationships with Norway and the global community at large.
The accolade is Modi’s 32nd international honor during his tenure, underscoring his pivotal role in international diplomacy. Instituted by King Olav V in 1985, the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit recognizes both Norwegian and foreign individuals for their exceptional service towards humanitarian and national interests.
The insignia includes the Cross of St. Olav in gold or silver, adorned with royal crowns. The Grand Cross, awarded to Modi, is traditionally worn with a wide sash and varies slightly in presentation for male and female recipients. Modi received the honor during his visit to Norway, which is part of a broader five-nation diplomatic tour.
