In a recent high-level discussion, India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and the United States Deputy Secretary of State, Christopher Landau, focused on reducing trade barriers, bolstering defense and technology cooperation, and tackling illegal immigration. According to a statement from the US Department of State, Deputy Secretary Landau expressed gratitude to India for its efforts in addressing immigration challenges impacting the United States.

State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce highlighted that the conversation also emphasized the significance of a balanced bilateral trade relationship, which aims to boost security and prosperity across the Indo-Pacific region. The dialogue coincides with the US decision to impose reciprocal tariffs on Indian goods starting April 2, underscoring the need for collaborative engagement.

Additionally, the US embassy in India has been enforcing a rigorous visa policy, recently canceling approximately 2000 visa appointments made by bots. This step is part of a zero-tolerance approach towards any unauthorized scheduling practices. The embassy affirmed this commitment on social media, stating their firm stance against agents and fixers violating visa procedures.
