An earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter Scale in Myanmar's Mandalay region caused significant devastation in Thailand's capital, Bangkok, and other provinces. The tremor led to the collapse of buildings in front of JJ Mall, claiming 10 lives, with 101 still missing, as confirmed by Deputy Governor Tavida Kamolvej.
The seismic event impacted multiple provinces including Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai, according to Pasakorn Boonyalak, head of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation. Thailand's Meteorological Department noted additional quakes in Mae Hong Son, stressing the ongoing risk of aftershocks.
Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra convened an urgent meeting and called for public calm, emphasizing the importance of obtaining information from verified sources. Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy assured that they are in touch with Thai authorities, ensuring the safety of Indian nationals in the affected areas.
