Fair Party MP Kannavee Suebsueng has sharply criticized the Thai government's decision to forcibly repatriate 40 Uyghurs to China in February, alleging that the move contradicts the foreign policy outlined to parliament. According to Thai PBS World, Suebsueng directed his criticism at Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, stating that this action has tarnished Thailand's international standing.
In an interview with Thai PBS World, Suebsueng described the repatriation as a significant misstep, warning that it could lead to increased pressure from other nations, particularly in areas such as trade and tariffs. He further suggested that the government's handling of the situation could become the basis for a film titled '73 Days of Lies,' naming the Prime Minister and key ministers involved.
Suebsueng provided a timeline of events spanning from January 7 to February 27, the deportation date, during which, he claimed, plans were secretly made despite detainees' resistance. Officials reportedly misled the public about the deportation process, maintaining that no such actions were underway. Thai PBS World noted that even after the Uyghurs' departure, Paetongtarn publicly denied any knowledge of the operation despite assertions from human rights observers. On Thursday, Radio Free Asia reported that Thailand deported 40 individuals labeled 'illegal immigrants,' amidst criticisms over Uyghur detentions. The global community continues to scrutinize the Uyghur situation in China, amid reports of severe human rights violations.
