In a damning revelation, a new report shows illegal underground water supply by unregistered tankers is fueling Naegleria outbreaks in Karachi. Testing across 50 union councils found 95% water contamination with the deadly parasite Naegleria, posing a grave public health threat.

Despite only 400 tankers being registered with the Karachi Water Board, more than 7,000 unregistered vehicles distribute water daily. This unregulated service not only compromises water quality but also fills the gap left by the shortfall in Karachi's daily water needs of 1,200 million gallons, as only 650 MGD is supplied legally.

Media reports detail a severe water scarcity, forcing residents to rely on high-priced water from a so-called 'water mafia'. Illegal hydrants further worsen the situation by siphoning water and selling it on the black market, risking the health of Karachi's populace.
