The streets of Nepal are witnessing a wave of protests following the government's contentious removal of Kulman Ghising, the esteemed Chief of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). The All Nepal National Free Students Union (Unified Socialist) has voiced its anger, targeting Energy Minister Deepak Khadka through an effigy burning, accusing him of orchestrating the deposition.

Ghising, revered for his decisive role in ending severe power outages and revitalizing Nepal's electricity sector, was replaced by Hitendradev Shakya, notably linked to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. His dismissal, despite a favorable track record, stems from a controversial performance evaluation that scored him zero, fueling public criticism and allegations of political manipulation.

As protests persist, Ghising's dismissal is being viewed as a political maneuver amid allegations of departmental interference by Minister Khadka. Supporters argue Ghising's achievements in reducing electricity leakage and boosting NEA's profitability highlight the unjust nature of his removal. The NEA, recovering from a history of losses, reports substantial profits and progress in electrification efforts, underscoring Ghising's contributions to Nepal's energy sector.
