Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, actively participated in the Singapore Maritime Week (SMW), where he engaged with prominent global maritime leaders. The discussions centered on devising strategies for a secure and sustainable maritime future, fostering collaborations with Singapore Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong and France's Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot.

Sonowal emphasized India's commitment to strengthening maritime connectivity, supply chains, and advancing a green and sustainable maritime sector. Key initiatives like the ONOP and NLP (Marine) are transforming India's ports, enabling efficiency through real-time data integration. Collaborations with the UAE and Singapore aim to establish Virtual Trade Corridors, enhancing seamless cargo movement.

During his engagements, Sonowal underscored India's maritime vision grounded in 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,' promoting global collaboration. Highlighting significant investment strategies like the IMEEC and North-South Transport Corridor, he discussed India's ambition to rank among the top five global shipbuilders by 2047, powered by policy reforms and infrastructure expansion.

Sonowal also addressed challenges like climate change and shifting trade patterns, underlining the sector's role in driving India's growth as a self-reliant economy. Future plans include developing green port infrastructure and low-emission shipping, with India taking a lead in the IMO's Green Voyage 2050 initiative. Discussions with France centered on maritime technology exchanges and sustainable growth collaboration.
