North Korea on Monday sharply criticized the annual joint military drills between the United States and South Korea, denouncing them as a 'planned and provocative nuclear war rehearsal.' The criticism was reported by South Korea's Yonhap, citing the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
The condemnation, issued by the Disarmament and Peace Institute at North Korea's foreign ministry, came just after the conclusion of the 11-day 'Freedom Shield exercise.' KCNA reported that the drills were deemed the most aggressive in history, prompting North Korea to threaten escalating its military capabilities.
Earlier this month, North Korea launched unidentified ballistic missiles, following the February launch of strategic cruise missiles as a demonstration of nuclear deterrence. Additionally, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un reaffirmed support for Russia's Ukraine conflict during talks with Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu, illustrating Pyongyang's global diplomatic stance.
