The Jaffar Express hijacking in Balochistan concluded with security forces rescuing passengers after a high-stakes operation. The operation was declared complete by Pakistan's ISPR DG, Lt Gen Sharif Chaudhry, who confirmed the deaths of 33 rebels involved in the attack.
On March 11, terrorists targeted a train track near Bolan, detonating an explosive that halted the Jaffar Express carrying 440 passengers. A military response was swiftly initiated, involving the army, air force, and specialized units, successfully recovering hostages. Despite the risks, no passengers were harmed in the operation, although initial hostilities resulted in 21 fatalities.
During the ordeal, captors reportedly communicated with Afghan-based masterminds. While 100 passengers were freed the day after the hijacking, further reports emerged of executed captives. The Baloch Liberation Army claimed responsibility for the attack, and intermittent casualties were reported, escalating tensions in the region.
