On Monday, members of the Tibetan Youth Congress staged a protest outside the Chinese Embassy, marking the 66th anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising of March 10, 1959. Protesters were detained by police as they wielded Tibetan flags and placards demanding the region's freedom.
Protesters voiced their grievances, asserting that China falsely claims Tibet as its own. "We are protesting for the freedom of Tibet," stated one member, emphasizing Tibet's distinct identity from China. They expressed the desire for liberation, firmly rejecting the notion of Tibet as 'Xizang.'
Sikyong Penpa Tsering, Tibetan President in-exile, reflected on the uprising as a crucial historic moment of defiance against China's occupation. In a social media post, he highlighted the severe losses faced by Tibetans, including cultural threats and harsh restrictions under current Chinese policies, urging remembrance of Tibet's struggle.
