In a recent hearing at a Chittagong court, Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das was denied bail despite his lawyers asserting his loyalty to Bangladesh. The former ISKCON leader, accused of sedition, remains in custody following the court decision, according to The Daily Star.
Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Saiful Islam rejected the bail plea after considering arguments presented by both sides. Das, who speaks on behalf of the Sammilita Sanatani Jagrani Jote, was arrested on November 25 last year. His legal team emphasizes his longstanding respect for Bangladesh, arguing procedural errors in the sedition charges.
India's Ministry of External Affairs has expressed concerns over the situation, highlighting incidents of violence against minorities in Bangladesh. The ministry has called for the safety of minorities and questioned the charges against Das, suggesting they were filed without proper state permission.
