The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has strongly condemned the detention of its Karachi region member, Jamal Baloch, by authorities, as reported by The Balochistan Post. Allegedly arrested at the Hub Chowki protest location, Jamal was reportedly taken to an undisclosed site, prompting allegations of state brutality from the BYC.
Despite the forceful police crackdown, which saw women and young protesters targeted in an effort to disrupt their peaceful assembly, the determination of the protestors remains unwavering. The BYC continues to call for wider community support, urging all sectors of society to join the ongoing sit-in, labeling this moment as pivotal in resisting increasing oppression.
The committee remains steadfast in its commitment to peaceful protest and calls on the government to respect their constitutional rights. As the Hub Chowki demonstration gains momentum, the BYC warns of further nighttime crackdowns and emphatically states that any harm to demonstrators will be squarely on the shoulders of state authorities.
The protest at Hub Chowki is a part of a broader initiative against forced disappearances and extrajudicial killings in Balochistan. BYC and activists urge international attention to what they describe as a silent genocide in Balochistan, marked by poverty and repression despite the region's resource richness.
