External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar extolled the progress in India-UAE relations, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's inaugural 2015 visit to the UAE as a pivotal moment. Addressing attendees at the Symbiosis International University's Dubai campus inauguration, Jaishankar emphasized the 'new milestones' achieved in bilateral relations.
He highlighted groundbreaking collaborations in sectors such as fintech, renewable energy, infrastructure, and defence, further noting that educational and cultural ties have strengthened with the establishment of Indian university campuses in the UAE. Jaishankar stressed the significance of these advancements, calling Prime Minister Modi's visit the first by an Indian leader in over a century to the UAE, which catalyzed these initiatives.
India and the UAE's long-standing relationship, formalized diplomatically in 1972, has witnessed unprecedented developments post-2015 with the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) being a key milestone. Visits by UAE's leaders have also reinforced this bond, showcasing mutual commitments in education, infrastructure, and strategic sectors.
