Imran Khan, the founding chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former Prime Minister, is rallying his supporters for a nationwide protest and a significant march to Islamabad planned for November 24. This call to action, reported by The Express Tribune, comes as Khan expresses concerns over diminished judicial independence and alleged electoral malpractice.
His sister, Aleema Khan, who recently visited him at Adiala Jail, conveyed Khan's message to the media. She quoted him lamenting that although a revolutionary spirit arose on February 8 empowering the people, their mandate was allegedly undermined the following day. This, according to Khan, has eroded the freedom of Pakistan's Supreme Court.
PTI leader Faisal Chaudhry stated that a committee has been set up to organize the Islamabad march, although the participants' identities remain undisclosed to avoid potential arrests. The protest demands include nullifying the 26th Constitutional Amendment, restoring the PTI mandate, and releasing detained individuals. Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif suggests this protest could signal the end of the current coalition government's term.
