In a significant diplomatic turn, Qatar has agreed to expel leaders of the militant group Hamas from its capital, Doha, following a request from the United States, sources told CNN. This move adds a new dimension to the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, marking a shift in Qatar's long-standing relationship with Hamas leaders.

Qatar has hosted Hamas officials in Doha since 2012, following their displacement from Damascus amid the Syrian civil war. US administrations, both Democrat and Republican, previously endorsed Qatar as a mediator with Hamas, the Times of Israel reported. However, recent US directives have prompted Qatar to revoke this arrangement.

Despite these developments, a senior Hamas official refuted the allegations, calling them unfounded and a pressure tactic. The timeline for the expulsion remains vague, while international focus intensifies on securing hostages and addressing escalating civilian casualties in Gaza amid an ongoing Israeli counteroffensive.
