The United States and India have reported significant progress in their joint investigation into a foiled assassination plot targeting US-based Khalistani leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. Last week, the two nations exchanged crucial information, advancing their respective inquiries, according to US State Department Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, Patel emphasized the importance of continued cooperation and accountability. He stated, "We continue to expect and want to see accountability based on the results of that investigation." The Indian inquiry committee, currently in the US, is tasked with examining the involvement of a former Indian official in the alleged plot.

In recent developments, the US has charged former Indian government employees, including Vikash Yadav and Nikhil Gupta, with murder-for-hire and money laundering related to the alleged plot. While Gupta has been extradited and pleaded not guilty, Yadav remains at large. The Ministry of External Affairs has confirmed Yadav is no longer affiliated with the Indian government.
