In a troubling surge of street crime, Pakistani cities are grappling with increasing violence and theft. A recent incident saw a private school teacher, Safoora Taimur, fatally shot by an unidentified assailant in Multan while on her way to work, highlighting the worrying trend.

The situation is equally dire in Karachi, where the Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) reported 5,533 street crime incidents last month. Amid these alarming numbers, 3,982 motorbike thefts, 1,651 mobile snatchings, and 190 auto thefts were documented, signaling a growing threat to public security.

Adding to the distress, cases of extortion and kidnapping have emerged, with about 100 deaths linked to theft incidents reported this year. The CPLC disclosed that mobile phone thefts reached 15,000, and motorbike thefts surged to 35,000. Recent cases include a fatal robbery attempt, underscoring the urgent need for law enforcement interventions. (ANI)
