The daughter of imprisoned Chinese real estate tycoon Ren Zhiqiang has publicly appealed to President Xi Jinping, urging that her father be allowed access to critical medical care. Ren's health condition is reportedly declining rapidly in jail, Voice of America has reported.

Ren Zhiqiang, once a notable member of the Chinese Communist Party and chairman of the state-owned Huayuan real estate group, was sentenced after criticizing the CCP's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic through a March 2020 essay. His daughter, Ren Xinyi, made an emotional plea on WeChat, requesting that he be released to receive urgent medical attention.

Xinyi revealed her father's dire health situation, citing his severe illness, including a long-standing prostate condition that required surgery before his imprisonment. Despite consistent requests, he has not received any medical care. Known as "Cannon Ren" for his outspoken critiques, Ren was sentenced to 18 years in prison on charges of corruption, bribery, and embezzlement.
