In an unprecedented move amidst political turmoil, the Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs has recalled five of its diplomats back to Dhaka. The envoys, representing the country in India, Australia, Belgium, Portugal, and the United Nations, have been summoned home as the nation grapples with significant upheaval.

The recalled diplomats include Mustafizur Rahman, High Commissioner to India; Muhammad Abdul Muhith, Permanent Representative to the United Nations; M Allama Siddiqui, High Commissioner to Australia; Mahbub Hassan Saleh, Ambassador to Belgium; and Rezina Ahmed, Ambassador to Portugal. The recall follows a massive anti-government movement sparked by student protests, which eventually led to the ouster of former leader Sheikh Hasina and the installment of an interim government.

Amidst reports of violence, including attacks on minority communities, Muhammad Yunus, the head of the interim government, addressed the United Nations General Assembly. He commended the youth-led protests that transformed the political landscape and promised a future embracing the nation's foundational values from 1971. However, Yunus's UN address was met with protests outside the headquarters, reflecting the tense political climate.
