External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has asserted India's active role in mediating the Russia-Ukraine conflict, emphasizing New Delhi's commitment to facilitating dialogue between the two nations. Speaking at a Carnegie Endowment event in the U.S., Jaishankar noted that India has been pivotal in communication efforts amid the ongoing war.
The minister highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visits to Russia in July and Ukraine in August as key examples of India's unique position. 'There are not many leaders who can engage with both Russia and Ukraine and hold talks with their leaders,' Jaishankar said, reflecting on the importance of these diplomatic efforts.
Reiterating India's stance, he said, 'Our public position is clear: we don't believe that disputes between countries can be resolved through war. At some point, negotiations are inevitable.' Jaishankar affirmed that while India does not have a specific peace plan, it aims to foster communication and alleviate the global anxiety caused by the conflict.
