The major Afghanistan-Pakistan border crossing at Kharlachi in Kurram district reopened on Tuesday after being closed for nine days following tribal clashes, Geo News reported. The closure caused severe shortages of essential supplies like food, medicines, and fuel, creating substantial hardships for local residents.
The clashes erupted between tribes in central Kurram and Balishkhel areas, spreading to regions such as Pewar, Teri Mangal, and Kanj Alizai. Tribal elders from the Turi-Bangash tribes urged authorities for immediate intervention to amicably resolve the conflict.
According to Geo News, police confirmed that the clashes between rival tribes had ceased and peace was restored. Security forces and police have been deployed to key areas. However, the violence, fueled by a land dispute, had already claimed at least 60 lives. Separate jirgas are now working towards a permanent ceasefire and lasting peace.
