In a significant development, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) retracted its plea for permission to host a public rally in Rawalpindi on Saturday, as reported by ARY News. The announcement was made during a session at the Lahore High Court's Rawalpindi bench, presided over by Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz. PTI's legal representative indicated that the decision to withdraw had been taken by the party's leadership.
Justice Chaudhry questioned the timing of the withdrawal, pointing out the imminent rally date. The PTI lawyer explained that the plea had been initially filed three days ago but had only been addressed today. The hearing revealed that the deputy commissioner's delays contributed to PTI's decision to pull back its application.
PTI officials, including Ghulam Husnain, Owais Younis, and Nabeel Satti, had originally sought permission to hold the rally at Liaquat Bagh or Bhatta Chowk. Despite previous attempts to secure a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Rawalpindi DC, the matter remained unresolved. PTI leadership, highlighting constitutional rights, was at odds with the delays. Meanwhile, PTI leader Ali Amin Gandapur criticized the ruling parties for unconstitutional actions, reaffirming PTI's stance for democracy and support for their imprisoned founder, Imran Khan.
