IBSA Ministers Push for Collective Action Against Terrorism at UNGA Meeting

In a significant gathering on the sidelines of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Brazil's Minister of Foreign Affairs Mauro Vieira, and South Africa's Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola pressed for collective action against all terrorist individuals and entities designated by the United Nations.
The ministers released a joint statement advocating for concerted actions against all UN-listed terrorists and terrorist entities, including Al-Qaeda, ISIS/Daesh, Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT), and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM). They emphasized the need for the expeditious adoption of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism by the UNGA and called for reforms within the UN Security Council Sanctions Committees to enhance their effectiveness and transparency.
Condemning terrorism in all its forms, the ministers reaffirmed their commitment to fight terrorism globally while respecting international law. They urged the international community to establish a comprehensive counterterrorism framework, reinforcing the UN's leading role in this effort. They stressed the responsibility of all nations to prevent and counter terrorism, including cross-border activities and financing of terrorist networks.
