Lieutenant General Muhammad Asim Malik has been appointed as the new Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), according to an ISPR announcement reported by ARY News on Monday. Malik will take over from Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum on September 30.
Currently serving as Adjutant General at the general headquarters in Rawalpindi, Malik has previously led key military units, including the Infantry Brigade in Waziristan and the Infantry Division in Balochistan. He is also a recipient of the prestigious Sword of Honor and has held significant academic posts at National Defence University (NDU) and Command and Staff College Quetta.
This leadership change arrives shortly after former ISI chief Faiz Hameed was arrested. Hameed, detained on August 12 for multiple violations of the Army Act, is now undergoing Field General Court Martial. His arrest came after an investigation, prompted by a Supreme Court order, revealed alleged misconduct involving a land development company named Top City.
