Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman expressed his grave concerns about the political instability in Pakistan, warning that the nation teeters on the brink of disaster, as reported by The Express Tribune. He demanded transparent elections, alleging the previous ones were marred by rigging and accusing the establishment of forming a flawed parliament.
Rehman criticized the current assembly, calling it an inaccurate representation of the populace, particularly in Balochistan, where he claims fair representation is lacking. The elections, marked by allegations of rigging and shutdowns of cellular and internet services, have come under intense scrutiny.
Addressing the business community, Rehman outlined Pakistan's precarious situation where both its constitution and institutions like the parliament and the judiciary are susceptible to interference. He highlighted that global hesitance to engage economically and worries of friendly nations about Pakistan's economy underline the crisis.
Rehman stressed that each institution should operate within its defined boundaries to secure stability, as reported by The Express Tribune. He warned that continued erosion of constitutional values would lead to further instability and emphasized that transparent elections and upholding the Constitution are imperative.
JUI-F General Secretary Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri also called for immediate transparent elections, criticizing the current government's mismanagement and loss of control. He pointed to lawlessness in Sindh's Kacha areas and the insecurity on Balochistan's national highways, questioning the government's effectiveness.
Haideri lashed out at the results of the 2018 and 2024 elections, deeming them fraudulent and incapable of establishing stable governments. He noted that corrupt individuals continue to be imposed on the public through rigged processes and that even government officials struggle with effective governance.
He criticized the government's dependence on the International Monetary Fund (IMF), accusing the current leadership of surrendering the nation to the lender and failing to curb inflation, according to The Express Tribune report.
