A policeman was killed and four others sustained injuries after a remote-controlled bomb targeted a police van guarding a convoy of foreign diplomats. The incident occurred while the convoy was en route to Malam Jabba from the Swat district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday, reported Geo News.

District Police Officer Zahidullah Khan confirmed the explosion and identified the deceased officer as Burhan. The convoy, which carried 11 foreign diplomats, was led by the impacted police van. Injured officers, including a sub-inspector, were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital in Saidu Sharif.

The attack took place in the Sherabad suburbs as the diplomats were traveling from an event at the Chamber of Commerce in Mingora. Diplomats from Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Iran, Ethiopia, Portugal, and Russia were among those in the convoy. All envoys were reportedly safe and later relocated to Islamabad.

A large number of police enforcement agencies were deployed to the area following the incident. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the incident, expressing condolences to the bereaved family and praying for the quick recovery of the injured.

Pakistan has seen a rise in violent attacks since the Taliban regained power in Afghanistan in 2021, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. According to the Pak Institute for Peace Studies, the provinces witnessed a significant increase in attacks last month.
