The 20th edition of the India-US Joint Military Exercise Yudh Abhyas is currently underway at the Mahajan Field Firing Ranges in Rajasthan. Running from September 9-22, 2024, the exercise is set to enhance interoperability and defence cooperation between the two nations' forces.

In an interview with ANI, participants discussed the critical insights and significance of the training. Soldiers from both countries are involved in strategic military drills, yoga, sports, and holistic exercises to prepare for real-world counter-terrorism operations under Chapter Seven of the United Nations Charter. The Indian Army, represented by the RAJPUT Regiment and other units, and the US Army's 1-24 Battalion from Alaska's 11th Airborne Division are participating.

Captain Likhita, Logistics Officer of the Indian Army, highlighted the exercise's focus on battle conditioning, anti-terrorist actions, and joint planning. She emphasized the opportunity for both forces to learn about each other's tactical policies and combat techniques. Junior Commissioned Officer Naib Subedar Mahadeep Singh, who participated in the first Yudh Abhyas in 2004, expressed pride in returning as a Platoon Commander.

A Central War Room has been established to coordinate strategies and oversee operations, with a temporary hospital set up for emergencies. As the exercise nears its conclusion on September 22, a 48-hour validation drill will test the troops' readiness. The annual Yudh Abhyas exercise alternates between India and the US, fostering inter-operability, camaraderie, and enhanced defence cooperation.
