External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, addressing the Indian diaspora in Geneva on Friday, brought attention to the rape and murder at Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital. The Minister underscored the ongoing concerns regarding women's safety and crimes against women in India.

Quoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Jaishankar highlighted societal imbalances where stricter scrutiny is placed on daughters as opposed to sons when they go out late at night. 'Do you do that to your sons?' he asked, emphasizing the need for gender equality.

Jaishankar mentioned the broader, multifaceted nature of women's safety issues and stressed the importance of respect, equality, and non-discriminatory opportunities for women. He voiced his deep outrage at the medical student's tragic killing, resonating with the public sentiment of anger and condemnation.
