Pakistan is facing an escalating youth unemployment crisis amid persistent economic challenges, according to a report by ARY News. The Planning Commission briefed the Senate Committee on Planning, underscoring the growing economic difficulties, including a sharp rise in youth unemployment.

Officials at the meeting highlighted that the country's slow economic growth, coupled with a rapidly rising population and limited job opportunities, is stalling development. Chairperson Quratul Ain expressed concerns over the population surge, emphasizing the urgent need for control measures.

The Planning Commission noted that Pakistan's GDP growth rate is currently at 3.5%, which is significantly lower than the 7% needed for sustained economic growth. During the briefing, officials outlined a comprehensive five-year plan that focuses on leveraging technology, promoting tourism, and boosting agricultural productivity.

According to the ARY News report, foreign investment, improvements in the energy sector, and industrial development are critical for Pakistan's economic stability. Recommendations for private sector investment and strengthening the SME sector were also part of the plan. Officials stressed the importance of poverty alleviation, enhancing human resources, and institutional reforms to address Pakistan's economic and social challenges.

In August, Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan members protested in Karachi against soaring inflation and hefty taxes. Protesters highlighted the severe impact of inflation and taxes on their livelihoods, with many attributing their financial hardships to government policies. A woman protester claimed that high taxes on essential commodities and services were exacerbating public financial difficulties, forcing many to choose between education, food, and utility bills.
