Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has made significant engagements during his visit to the United States, meeting with the Indian diaspora, students, and faculty at universities, as well as US lawmakers. The meetings took place at the Rayburn House Office Building and were hosted by Congressman Bradley James Sherman. Prominent US Congress members such as Jonathan Jackson, Ro Khanna, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Barbara Lee, Shri Thanedar, Jesus G. 'Chuy' Garcia, Ilhan Omar, Hank Johnson, and Jan Schakowsky attended.
Gandhi also held discussions with US diplomat Donald Lu and lawmaker Pramila Jayapal. His meeting with Donald Lu, the Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of South and Central Asia, occurred in Washington DC on September 9, ahead of Lu's visit to India and Bangladesh. Gandhi expressed his anticipation for meaningful discussions that could further strengthen US-India ties.
This visit marked Gandhi's first trip to the US since becoming the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. Reflecting on the Dallas leg of his tour, he highlighted engaging interactions with students at the University of Texas and significant community events. Sam Pitroda, Chairperson of the Indian Overseas Congress, noted that Gandhi's itinerary included multiple engagements on Capitol Hill, meetings with the National Press Club, and conversations with think tanks.
