Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, stressed that the current struggle transcends politics and revolves around safeguarding the rights of religious freedom in India. Speaking to the Indian community in Virginia, Gandhi highlighted the plight of Sikhs, questioning whether they would be permitted to wear religious symbols like turbans and kadas, and visit Gurdwaras.

He further elaborated that this battle isn't just for Sikhs but for all religious communities in India. 'First of all, you have to understand what the fight is about. It is not about politics; it is about ensuring that everyone is free to practice their religion,' Gandhi asserted during the event.

Addressing the financial challenges faced by the Congress party, Gandhi revealed that their bank accounts were sealed three months before the national elections. This action severely hampered their ability to campaign. 'All our bank accounts were sealed. No money for advertising, no money to transport our leaders,' he said. Despite these obstacles, Gandhi noted that the party fought the election with a resilient spirit. Criticizing the ruling BJP, he argued that the 'fear of Prime Minister Narendra Modi' dissipated after the election results, marking a shift in the political landscape.
