The U.S. Consul General in Chennai, Chris Hodges, has launched a five-day workshop focused on preventing antiquities trafficking, in collaboration with the governments of India, Nepal, and Tamil Nadu. This initiative follows the recent signing of the Cultural Property Agreement.

The event, running from September 9 to September 13, was inaugurated with remarks from Hodges emphasizing the importance of respecting ancestry, history, and mutual heritage. He highlighted that the agreement resulted from diligent efforts over the past two years and fulfils commitments made by President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Hodges pointed out that the workshop brings together experts to develop strategies for cultural preservation, reflecting a new phase in U.S.-India cooperation. He expressed pride in the partnership between the U.S. and India in safeguarding cultural heritage, supported by Ambassador Eric Garcetti and Govind Mohan, Secretary of the Indian Ministry of Culture.
