Former Indian diplomat KP Fabian emphasized on Monday that Russia and Ukraine need to show genuine commitment to achieving a ceasefire. He noted that a mediator could only facilitate a peaceful resolution as National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval prepares for his visit to Moscow.
Speaking to ANI, Fabian stressed India's opportunity to contribute to the peace process, particularly during the BRICS NSA meeting slated ahead of the BRICS Summit in Kazan from October 22-24. He highlighted the importance of Doval's visit not just for the meeting but in discussing the Ukraine crisis with key Russian officials.
Fabian elaborated on the complex nature of the conflict, mentioning that there are essentially two wars: one between Russia and Ukraine, and another between Russia and NATO, led by the United States. He emphasized the severe damage in Ukraine and the necessity of ending the conflict. Fabian also noted India's diplomatic tightrope, lauding Prime Minister Modi's consistent message of peace, which remains highly relevant.
