Sharjah, UAE [September 5] (ANI/WAM): The Sharjah Museums Authority has announced its maiden collaboration with the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts to host the exhibition 'Roots and Modernity: Contemporary Mediterranean Arab Art.' Slated to run at the Sharjah Art Museum from September 18 to November 24, 2024, this showcase offers an unrivaled glimpse into the vibrant world of contemporary art from the Mediterranean Arab region.

Featuring over 80 pieces, including paintings, sculptures, and mixed media, the exhibition promises a rich tapestry of artistic expression. The collection stands out for its distinctive blend of traditional influences and modern techniques that encapsulate the region's unique art scene.

The exhibition will display masterpieces from the Jordan National Gallery's permanent collection, spotlighting works by luminaries such as Saliba Douaihy (Lebanon), Fateh Moudarres (Syria), Mohammed Melehi (Morocco), and Suleiman Mansour (Palestine). The artwork poignantly mirrors the profound cultural, social, and political changes shaping contemporary Mediterranean Arab art.

"We are thrilled to present this landmark exhibition, which further cements our dedication to cultural exchange and celebrating the rich artistic heritage of the Mediterranean Arab world," said Aisha Rashid Deemas, Director-General of Sharjah Museums Authority. "Through this partnership with the Jordan National Gallery, we hope to offer visitors a profound understanding of contemporary art rooted in tradition," added Deemas.

Dr. Khalid Khreis, Director-General of the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts, emphasized that 'Roots and Modernity' features artworks by the most prominent figures in Mediterranean Arab contemporary art, reflecting both diversity and unity, along with a quest for contemporary artistic identity. The exhibition also includes an extensive lineup of engaging museum programs to cultivate artistic skills across audiences of all ages.
