Greta Thunberg, the globally recognized Swedish climate activist, was detained by Danish police on Wednesday morning in Copenhagen. The arrest occurred during a pro-Palestine protest at the University of Copenhagen, as reported by Politico.

Thunberg took to Instagram, sharing videos of the protest and the subsequent police action. 'Students Against the Occupation and I are at the University of Copenhagen's administration building. Police have been called, and violently entered the building with a ram wearing assault rifles. They are evicting everyone as we speak,' she said in one video.

According to another video from Thunberg, 'Students have been arrested and are being taken to the station at this very moment.' Copenhagen police confirmed that around 20 demonstrators had gathered, with six arrests made. Danish media outlet Ekstra Bladet, cited by Politico, confirmed these reports. Additionally, Danish news channel TV2 aired footage of Thunberg being placed in a police van.

The identity of the arrested individuals remains unconfirmed by police, but a spokesperson for 'Students Against the Occupation' informed Reuters that Thunberg was among those detained. Campus protests worldwide have increased over the last 11 months, following Hamas' attack on Israel and subsequent military operations by Israel in Gaza and the West Bank.

The ongoing conflict in West Asia heightened tensions on October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched strikes on Israeli territory from Gaza, resulting in civilian casualties and hostages. In response, Israel initiated a military campaign aimed at dismantling Hamas' infrastructure and securing the release of hostages, sparking widespread global demonstrations.
