Kim Jong Un Allegedly Executes Officials After Devastating North Korean Floods
South Korea is monitoring reports that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un may have executed officials due to flood damages that claimed lives and displaced thousands. The suspected executions followed a July emergency meeting where Kim vowed to punish responsible individuals.
SEOUL, South Korea (ANI) - South Korea is currently monitoring allegations that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un may have executed several officials following catastrophic floods that resulted in numerous deaths earlier this year, local media in Seoul reported.
The South Korean National Intelligence Service detected signs of these executions and is closely observing the developments, Yonhap reported. In an emergency party politburo meeting in late July, Kim had vowed to punish officials over the severe flood damage that displaced thousands.
Reports from North Korean state media KCNA indicate that several officials, including the public security minister and provincial party chiefs, were dismissed from their posts. Kim's inspection of flood-hit areas in Sinuiju and Uiju County involved guiding a military operation to rescue approximately 5,000 isolated residents using helicopters.
A Yonhap article cited South Korea's unification ministry in July, addressing the extensive damage in the North, including the need to restore electricity, communication lines, and supply medicine. North Korean state media released photos showing Kim inspecting the flood damage in Sinuiju on a lifeboat, with nearly all buildings in the toured village submerged up to their roofs.
