Prime Minister Narendra Modi held discussions with Brunei Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah on Wednesday, with the two leaders exploring ways to enhance bilateral ties. The talks centered on expanding trade, commercial connections, and people-to-people exchanges. Modi was warmly welcomed by the Sultan and his family at the Istana Nurul Iman.
Speaking on social media platform X, Modi expressed his delight at meeting the Sultan, emphasizing the wide-ranging nature of their talks aimed at strengthening bilateral relations. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted Brunei's key role in India's 'Act East' Policy and its Indo-Pacific vision.
Modi's visit, the first-ever by an Indian Prime Minister to Brunei, was marked by several significant activities. These included a ceremonial welcome, interactions with the Indian diaspora, and the inauguration of the new Chancery of the High Commission of India in Bandar Seri Begawan. Modi also visited the historic Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque, further cementing the diplomatic rapport. His next stop will be Singapore for a two-day visit.
