PM Modi to Discuss Maritime Security in Singapore, Strengthen Ties with Brunei

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming visit to Singapore will focus on discussions around maritime security, according to Jaideep Mazumdar, Secretary East, Ministry of External Affairs. Speaking at a special briefing, Mazumdar emphasized the alignment of views between India and Singapore on maintaining safe, secure, and free sea lines of communication.
Responding to a query about the agenda, Mazumdar remarked, 'On maritime security and safety, of course, you know India's position on the South China Sea. For Singapore, maintaining secure sea lines of communication is equally crucial. Therefore, these issues will undoubtedly be discussed.' He further noted the importance of such discussions for regional stability.
Addressing bilateral ties, Mazumdar detailed PM Modi's itinerary, which includes a visit to Brunei at the invitation of Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, followed by a trip to Singapore to meet Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. This will be Modi's first bilateral visit to Brunei, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Discussions will cover a wide range of areas, from defence and trade to space technology and people-to-people exchanges.
